Seedr analytics

Retail analytics app

The challenge

We were asked, together with our technology partners, to design and build an ambitious web application for one of the UK's largest chain of supermarkets. The goal was to unleash the power of data and analytics to deliver actionable insight directly to employees on any device.

Developing ideas

We began by taking time to understand the problem we were looking to solve and together with the product owner we started sketching out some initial ideas.

Designing a new UI

We worked closely with numerous stakeholders to fully understand the requirements. From the discovery phase we were able to sketch out initial ideas and build wireframes. We built a web prototype and accompanying style library which enabled senior stakeholders to buy in to the core concept at a very early stage.

Skills used

Using Agile principles we were able to build working software quickly and improve incrementally after a successful pilot phase. The application is now being rolled out across the estate to many hundreds of users.

Skills and tools used:

  • Gathering user stories
  • Sketching and wireframing
  • UI design
  • Front End development - HTML5, CSS3
  • JS framework - Ember JS

Social sports app

Final formate logo

Formate is a web app for organisers and players of football. It's aimed at those who play for fun - Futsal, 5/6-a-side, jumpers for goalposts etc It can also be used by those who want to run small teams and clubs.

The challenge

Millions of Organising five-a-side football can be a pain. Many people use a combination of text messages, spreadsheets, phone calls and notebooks. As people who have experienced this first hand we sought to remove the pain, create an enjoyable user experience and add some fun elements too.

Formate combines utility with social to allow users to create their own club page, invite members to matches, write and comment on match reports and indulge in friendly competition with membership tables and stats for wins, appearances, Man of the Match awards.

Formate is currently in an Alpha phase, it's an MVP and we're in the process of getting early customer validation.

The challenge

A complete overhaul of an online business event/venue finding service. We completely reinvented the user experience so that it was easy for a client to find venues and create an enquiry and we rebuilt the entire web application (originally in PHP) in Ruby on Rails.

As part of the service Ralph and Paul manage enquiries and proposals using their extensive knowledge of events, but they wanted to automate where possible and streamline business processes to maximise efficiency. We included features that helped them eliminate repetitive and time consuming tasks that were business critical.

Agile and Test driven

Using agile development with open collaboration (via Basecamp) we were able to share progress and stay in control of the project and its scope. 'Test Driven Development' meant that from week 1 we produced well-designed, well-tested, and well-factored code in small, verifiable steps. All in all we were able to deliver a fully working web application quickly without burning through the budget.

What they said

Seedr were excellent to work with, and understood our aims right from the start. The process used managed to open us up to some great ideas that we had previously closed out, some of which are now integral to our product. Highly recommended! Ralph King, Owner
